State Board of Education Approval

The EEI Curriculum received unanimous approval by the State Board of Education in 2010. This action was unprecedented, and placed California at the forefront of environment-based education nationally, with a state-approved Curriculum ready for use in the classroom. The approval process mirrored that followed by K-8 textbook publishers for approval of adopted Curriculum materials. The agency's approval was in addition to the rigorous testing and vetting by teachers, administrators, academic content experts, businesses, environmental-based nonprofit groups, and students like yours, who found the material interesting and engaging.

"This first-in-the-nation environmental curriculum will help change the way we look at solving our environmental problems. Today's environmental issues are integrated into everyday life, and this curriculum gives us the opportunity to help shape our future leaders and educate them about preserving our environment through their everyday academics," said Senator Fran Pavley, who introduced the law in 2003.
