EEI 101 - Middle School Focus 

This webinar provides a comprehensive introduction to the California Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) Curriculum for middle school teachers. The EEI is a free K-12 curriculum that teaches critical skills in science and history-social science using environmental topics as a lens. This webinar will highlight EEI’s background and the State of California’s vision for environmental literacy, the various features and components of a typical EEI unit (sample lessons, connections to California issues, and assessments), and how our curriculum can be used to teach select history-social science standards to mastery, as well as support Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards.

Powering California - Understanding Energy Resources and Choices

Join us for this engaging session as we highlight our 6th grade EEI unit: Energy: It’s Not All the Same to You! Learn about California’s power mix of eight energy sources that fuel electricity generation in the Golden State. Also explore energy sources used to power transportation, which consumes forty percent of all of the energy used in California. We will cover six lessons that let your students examine energy conversion and use, sources of energy from renewable and nonrenewable sources, the byproducts of electricity generation and consumption, plus the affects upon natural systems. We will also explore a supplemental lesson that focuses on traditional and alternative energy sources used to power California’s transportation. Support for Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards will also be discussed.
